President Barack Obama reached out his hand to the Muslim world on Thursday, seeking a partnership in the timeless search for peace in the Middle East and a new beginning.
"This cycle of suspicion and discord must end," Obama said.
The president tried to do what no American president has yet succeeded in, bringing peace to the Middle East and establishing true bonds of trust between the United States and the world's 1.5 billion Muslims.
"I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes, but the same principle must apply to Muslim perceptions of America," the president said.
Casting himself as an honest broker in the region the president upheld this country's strong bonds with Israel, but said the Israelis would have to stop building settlements.
He said the situation of the Palestinians was intolerable, but that the Hamas terror group has to stop its attacks.
"Hamas must put an end to violence, recognize past agreements and recognize Israel's right to exist," Obama said.
