President Barack Obama received high grades in New York for trying to end the cycle of suspicion and discord in the Middle East.
But some feel he could have gone further in trying to rein in Iran.
Iranian President Mahmoud Amahdinijad denies the holocaust, and his development of nuclear capabilities has terrified Israel and other Mideast nations.
"I have made it clear to Iran's leaders and people that my country is prepared to move forward," Obama said.
Many people were not pleased that the president supported Iran's right to have nuclear power for peaceful uses.
"Iran can undo all that the United States is seeking to achieve in the region, so I would have hoped for a little bit more direct language, forceful language on the Iran question," David Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Committee, said.
"We didn't hear the kind of definitive statements about Iran's activities, or mention of Hezbollah, the Lebanese elections, the message about Hamas," Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, said.
